In our first conversation about Maddie Matthew’s wedding, they expressed their sincere hope for snow on their wedding day. I knew how unpredictable the weather could be, but I crossed my fingers for them nonetheless.

In the days leading up to the wedding, the forecast called for a chilly and windy 17-degree day, with zero percent chance of precipitation. I packed out layers and prepared for the worst.

The morning of their Publick House Historic Inn wedding, as I walked over to Maddie’s room to grab her details to photograph, I couldn’t believe my eyes – it was snowing!

The weather was now calling for a light dusting of snow before all precipitation would stop.

Much to our glee, the snow just kept falling! Every surface was soon covered, and it felt like we had been transported into a snow globe! It was the most magical and unexpected surprise, and we were thrilled.

Maddie and Matthew were such a sweet and down-to-earth couple, and their love for each other shone through in every detail of their Publick House Historic Inn wedding. As a couple, they share a deep love of France- and wove French details throughout their wedding day. During the ceremony, a French poem was read by bilingual guests, and at their cocktail hour the drink of choice was a French 75.

Their reception held another delightful surprise – a contra dancing band and caller! Like many of the guests, I had never heard of contra dancing before, but the caller assured everyone that if we could smile, we could contra dance. And she was right! She guided us through a series of easy dances, and before we knew it, everyone was on the dance floor, laughing, joking, and spinning each other around. It was a wonderful way to get everyone involved and enjoy.

After the wedding, they jetted off to a French honeymoon, indulging in a week of French food, wine, and skiing in the French Alps. Maddie and Matthew’s Publick House Historic Inn wedding was full of warmth, joy, and surprises.
