The Gilded Age comes to life through the interior of the Willard Hotel for this wedding in Washington DC.
Beauty and elegance are intertwined at The Willard InterContinental, a DC hotel and wedding venue that offers an opulent ballroom setting. In fact, The Willard Hotel has over three centuries of significant history in Washington. Famed visitors include Emily Dickinson, President Woodrow Wilson, and Martin Luther King Jr. Additionally, the hotel was once described as “a long row of small houses” by Charles Dickens.
Today, the hotel combines a touch of modernity with its elegance of the past for couples tying the knot in its historic walls. Couples planning their wedding day can carve out a piece of The Willard’s history as their own. Norah and Mike selected the sought-after Willard Hotel in DC as their wedding venue, planning an impeccable day filled with refined details, stunning florals, and a muted color palette of sage green, blush pink, and gold.Â
Norah and Mike’s love story began just one before the entire world shut down. The couple started dating in February 2020. However, the forthcoming pandemic had other plans in mind. With their outside dating life coming to a halt they opted instead to become “quarantine buddies”. This light-hearted turn of phrase quickly went from buddies to best friends, to deeply in love. When they began planning the details of their wedding day, they found themselves drawn to downtown DC, the location they dubbed as “where it all began”.Â
Exquisite wedding day details at The Willard Hotel
As the details of their wedding day began to come together, and, after having chosen The Willard as their wedding venue, Norah and Mike decided to host a black-tie wedding. A wedding where their guests could come dressed in their best evening attire while celebrating the love story that thrived during the pandemic.Â
With a wedding party of 20, I found that both Norah and Mike were overjoyed at the idea of spending the sweet moments of their wedding day with their closest friends and family members by their side. For Mike, it was a quick drink with his groomsmen in his getting-ready suite before meeting Norah for their first look. Meanwhile, Norah spent the morning in her bridal suite having her dressed buttoned by her Mom and her bridal veil affixed by her bridesmaids.
Norah and Mike decided upon a first look before meeting one another down the aisle. Knowing that we would be off to the War Memorial for formal portraits, I positioned them in the halls of The Willard for their first glimpse at each other. This allowed us the space for creative wedding day photos that drew on their wedding venue, as well as the surrounding iconic Washington DC landmarks.
