Unabashed love and joyful moments filled The Mayflower Hotel for Mollie and Steve’s wedding.
As a wedding photographer in Washington DC, I was particularly excited about the idea of working with Mollie & Steve on their best day ever at The Mayflower Hotel. The hotel has stood tall in the area for nearly a century; after its opening in 1925. This piece of architectural history now serves as a wedding venue where couples can recite their sacred vows of marriage inside its gilded walls.Â
Together, Mollie and Steve’s love is refreshing to behold. They share this energetic magnetism between them. They are the kind of couple who include others in their jokes so that everyone can enjoy a laugh along with them. Throughout the wedding planning process, I discovered that Mollie & Steve’s wedding day style was modern and embraced current trends. This filled me with anticipation at the idea of seeing their black tie optional wedding at The Mayflower Hotel, come to life. Additionally, Mollie preemptively expressed how fun was a core element of planning their wedding. So when the evening was said and done, it came as no surprise that she described her wedding as the best night of her life.
When wedding day arrived, I met Mollie and her wedding party in their suite at The Mayflower Hotel. In fact, the suite they occupied came with access to a beautiful balcony. Which proved an exquisite source of light for those cherished moments of Mollie getting buttoned up into her dress. With Mollie in her off-the-shoulder ball gown with flouncy layers of tulle, she was ready for the first look with her wedding party. The group patiently awaited, with their backs turned, for the big reveal. When Mollie revealed her gown, they turned around and cheered in delight. It was a beautiful moment that incited warm embraces and a barrage of happy tears.
A Mayflower Hotel Wedding Filled with Unabashed Love & Joy
As with many of the couples I work with, Mollie and Steve also wanted to have a first look with each other on their wedding day. But there was one more person, waiting in the wings, ready to catch a preliminary look of the bride as well, Mollie’s Dad. Mollie shared a first look with her Dad. There’s no denying the flood of emotion that a couple experiences during a first look on their wedding day. But a first look between Mollie and her Dad closely rivaled that level of emotion, in the best way possible. Mollie’s Dad fought back the tears as he laid eyes on his daughter for the first time on her wedding day. My only hope is that they will cherish the memory of that moment for a lifetime when they look back on their photos together.
It was finally time for the long-awaited moment of Mollie and Steve to share a first look. It was a moment that erupted in a wave of emotions overtaken by the biggest smiles. With Mollie and Steve side by side, I began working with them on a photography experience that showcased a variety of backdrops. From the balcony first look to the iconic facade of The Mayflower Hotel and finally the glowing foyer. My goal was to create a photography experience for them that is as invigorating as the love they share.
