The air was fresh, filled with the smell of sweet, clean are drifted by on the cool mountaintop breeze. It was the smell of the Scottish Highlands. Tucked between the ‘hills’ (which would dwarf the tallest of Appalachian Mountains) are around every bend of the road was a new wonder which, quite honestly left me speechless. There is just so much to tell I cannot possibly share it all- but here are some highlights! I stayed with Cara, her family, and their matching yellow VW bugs. We had a great time driving through the countryside, and I loved getting to see some of their favorite places!
Scone Palace- The grounds were impeccable and is home to a vast range of artifacts which the family has collected over the years from all over the world. Everything from priceless Vases from Versailles to California Redwood trees in the garden which towered over the landscape. To cap it all off, we went to the Tearoom in the basement to get a Scone (which is a type of English pastry) at Scone Palace!
After a few days with Cara and her wonderful family. I headed back to the train station, this time bound for Chester, and my friend Natalie! Chester is this charming Tudor city, with streets lined with stores of all different kinds packed into tilting white and black buildings. All surrounded by an ancient Roman Wall which we walked along the top of to get around! In the city center is a grand medieval cathedral, where the beautiful architecture resonated with the sound of the choir which happened to be practicing while were there. It was an interesting juxtaposition to the modern art exhibition which was also taking place inside the cathedral.
I journeyed down to Wolverhampton, where I met with my friends Ste, HIS BABY Eliza (I cannot believe that he was a DAD) and Laura! We got to go INSIDE an old Tudor house which was really interesting!
To Chloe, Hayley, Kirsten + her Parents, Lindsey, Cara + her Family, Natalie, Johnny, Ste, and Laura: I cannot thank you enough for everything. For opening your homes. For showing me your Country. For introducing me to best chocolate, and getting me completly hooked on English Tea.
