I am still pinching myself, in shock that I boarded a plane and flew across the pond to the UK for two whole weeks!! Now, I have flown by myself inside the United States before, but never in my wildest dreams could I imagine myself hopping onto a plane to a Europe alone. Lucky for me I had the most amazing friends waiting for me on the other side, I was too excited to see them to think about being scared!
I have spent the past six summers working at a summer camp, called Camp Wright, and every year we get a handful of International staff who come from around the UK. I had always wanted to visit them across the pond- and at the end of this summer, I found myself looking at flights and the next thing I knew I was packing my bags!
I flew out of Dulles, had a four-hour layover in Dublin, before continuing on to Manchester. Once there I took a train from Manchester down to London. After three days there I took the night train (so cool!) called The Caledonia Express from London to Edinburgh (which, after many, a Scotsman has corrected me, is pronounced Ed-in-bra.) I spent two days there, then it was off to Perth for two days, Chester, Wolverhampton, and Bamford. It was a complete whirlwind as trying to visit everyone, but so amazing! Once inside the country, I used a BritRail Flexi-pass to take full advantage of the extensive rail system to get around. It is very similar to an Interrailing pass- with it I had eight days of travel on any train in the UK for 15 days. If you are thinking about traveling the UK, I HIGHLY recommend it. It really simplified the whole processes, as I could hop on and off as I please!
My first stop was in London, where I got to visit my friend Chloe for a few days! On the first day, we started at Greenwich Park, and OH MY GOODNESS, the VIEW!!!! You could see all of London from here!
The next day, Hayley Howlett came to visit us. We went to The Tower of London, had real Fish + Chips, and went to the Worlds Largest Lush Store (aka HEAVEN) on Oxford Street.
For our last day in London, we went to the British Museum have we had a late afternoon tea! We went to see the Rosetta Stone in the museum, on the way we somehow found ourselves in a part of the Acropolis from Athens, which is housed there. My inner history was completely geeking out.
Just an adorable little pizza stall we walked by on our way to the tube station.
After an amazing three days in London with Chloe, I was off again, taking The Caledonia Express up to Edinburgh. I am just in LOVE with this city! It looks like something straight out of Harry Potter and is full of adorable little side streets and gems.
In the center of the city is an old Volcano, called Arthurs Seat. The GREENS up here, mixed with the beautiful sunlight just made my little photographer heart so happy.
Coming soon: Perth, Chester, Wolverhampton, and a little town called Bamford.
