Where to have your Washington DC Engagement Session

Since moving to DC last year, one of my favorite past times has quickly become exploring the city! When I’m out looking at some of the most well-known and beautiful museums, monuments, and buildings, it’s easy to see which locations would be perfect for a DC engagement session! DC Is most well known for the quintessential monuments, but there are truly so many incredible locations to keep in mind when planning your Washington DC engagement session. As the fall season approaches, here’s a quick list of five DC locations for engagement sessions that I just love! 

Smithsonian Gardens

The Smithsonian may be one of the most well-known buildings in the city. With ample green space, beautiful blooms, and fantastic views of the original museum, this is a gorgeous option year-round for those looking to capture the outdoor vibes of DC. Located in downtown DC, these incredible gardens are easy to reach and provide a ton of beautiful spots for your portraits. 

Capitol Building

Is there anything more iconically DC than the Capitol Building? There are so many beautiful spots at the Capitol for your portraits. From the classic steps to the large marble pillars, the Capitol Building will elevate your city engagement session. This is a great spot to wear your best outfit and celebrate your upcoming wedding day! 

Georgetown 

Georgetown might be one of the most elegant parts of the city. With the old streets, incredible buildings, and the waterfront views, it’s a great option for lots of variety. Georgetown is also home to the C & O Canal, which is probably one of its most famous picture spots. If capturing the historic beauty of DC is on your list of “must haves”, Georgetown is the spot for you. PS. It’s a great spot to grab a cupcake or bite to eat after your session – make it a full date night! 

National Cathedral

One of my FAVORITE locations in the city has to be the National Cathedral. The grand architecture is reminiscent of Notre Dame in Paris, and its quaint manicured gardens are straight out of a fairytale. If you’re looking for a romantic and historic option for your engagement session, this is definitely it! 

Union Station

This is the PERFECT option if you do not want to worry about rain or inclement weather. It’s close to the Capitol Building and can be a great second location for a variety of looks. With stunning architecture and archways, it’s a wonderful location for an elegant engagement session. We can capture portraits inside the terminal lobby or outside under the beautiful arches. There’s so many wonderful options here! 

National Arboretum

The National Arboretum is a beautiful location to capture the history and the outdoor vibes of Washington DC. With cherry blossoms in the spring, a beautiful pond, and so many other unique spots, it’s a fun location to pick for lots of variety in your final gallery. Some of the most beautiful exhibits in DC are located here and serve as a gorgeous backdrop for a chic and stylish engagement session!
