OH MAN, my friends. Have I got a treat for you? Maura and William’s breathtaking Caribbean destination wedding on the island of Nevis in the West Indies is finally here. I’m still trying to shake Island Time, (which is a very real thing on Nevis. )

Nevis and Saint Kitts Wedding

Most of their families and friends arrived on the island a week early to enjoy some time fully unplugged with the bride and groom before their special day. Thanks to this time, which you can read in the previous blog post, we all got to know each other at events throughout the week. So by the time their wedding day arrived, we all felt like one big family, and everyone was glowing (not just from the sun).

The day started off like all the days before. We enjoyed a breakfast buffet on the patio complete with plantain and pumpkin pancakes (my favorite), freshly picked papaya, toasted coconut french toast, and more. Once the bride and groom ate with their bridal party, they split again to start getting ready. Instead of room numbers, each cottage at the Hermitage had a name. The girls got ready at the Pink House while the groomsmen headed to the Sugar Mill up the hill.

The details of the day were beautiful from start to finish. From Maura’s nevis sourced florals from the neighbor’s garden to the Caribbean-brewed beer Will and his guys enjoyed, the entire day was covered in West Indies wedding vibes. That was a beautifully intentional nod to Will’s family history. And from the moment Maura stepped into her dress until the last shot of the night, she was absolutely radiant with joy. Most brides are on their wedding day, but Maura was angelic. Everything about her dress, her hair and makeup, her florals, her laughter was so her.

After their getting ready portraits, we gathered Will and Maura for their First Look. The property is built on the side of a volcano at the edge of the rainforest, so we chose one of the carved-out tiers to give the bride and groom a breathtaking oceanic backdrop. Will’s face when he saw Maura was so precious! From there, their family and bridal party joined us, and they exchanged their vows.

And as if this moment was not serendipitous enough, the magistrate from the Nevis government, who was originally just there to have them sign their papers, surprised the couple with a beautiful monologue about marriage, their bond, and hopes for their future together. The moment was so inspiring. There was not a single dry eye (including mine). Then the magistrate legally married them and signed the paperwork- surrounded by their wedding party, and a few family members. It was my favorite part of the entire day.

After they were declared married by the magistrate, we drove to the north side of the island for their Cottle Church ceremony, an old stone church on the north side of the island, where Will and Maura exchanged rings. We then stole some moments for portraits at the church while their guests headed back to The Hermitage Nevis for cocktail hour.

I just stopped and stared at the beauty of the day and landscape we were shooting in, and said to Will, “This is it. This is what you and your family dreamed of for so long!” He was glowing. The idea that he was able to share his favorite place on earth, the most perfect nearly private Caribbean island his family loved so much, now with his bride and friends, had me totally wrapped in emotion. And almost right after saying that, we turned around to the most stunning sunset I’ve ever seen! Not planned, just BOOM. There it was. It was peaceful and heavenly.

Lastly, for their wedding reception at The Hermitage Nevis, where the staff of the Hermitage pulled out all the stops for a Traditional West Indian Buffet. Everything was delicious – especially the tropical cheesecakes topped with passion fruit and guava. YUM!
